OCTG (Casing & Tubing)

What is OCTG?

Octg refers to oil country tubular goods that take in the incorporation of the seamless tubes that are delivered in a quenched and tempered state. The Casing takes into account the American Petroleum Institute certified products that are modified with integral connections, premium connections, and integral metal seal connections as well as threaded and coupled integral connections. Octg Casing is available in different types such as the following:

  • Production casing
  • Structural casing
  • Production rods
  • Production tubing
  • Structural tubing
  • Structural rods

Categories of OCTG

The Octg casings are generally described on the basis of the following categories:

  • Size
  • Linear Mass
  • External diameter
  • Thickness of the wall
  • Type of end finish

The casings are often divided into the plain end, the short round thread, the long round thread and finally the buttress thread. The Octg Casing is used for a variety of applications that take into account the oil field industries as well as outer packing facilities for different kinds of bundles or wooden cases that are to be shipped.

About OCTG Casings

The pipe casing is divided into the bevel categories refer to the angle that is formed between the prepared edge of the tube end of the tube as well as the plane that is perpendicular to the surface. The bevel pipe of the standard size is 30 degrees. Octg casings also take in a billet which is a solid round bar made of steel that is pierced to form a seamless pipe or tube. The OCTG includes a black pipe that indicates a lacquered OD finish that is different from the galvanized or bare ones.

The Octg casings box has an internal or female end. It uses a brinell testing system to verify the hardness of the tubes for measuring the indent of the specific subject with the help of a standard weight or shaped point. Casing for the oil country tubular goods pipes are also referred to as BTC which stands for buttress, threaded and coupled. The bundle refers to the number of pieces that are banded together for shipping. Casing burst refers to the internal pressure that is yielded to the tube on a hydro static basis.

Casing pipe is used in Octg as the structural retainer for the walls of a drilled hole. CAD refers to the computer aided design, while CAM denotes computer aided manufacturing. A pipe or tubing is referred to as cold drawn when it is pulled through a die for reduction of the wall and diameter. Casing pipes helps produce closer tolerances and increased strength.

Casing for the oil country tubular goods are available in the form of welded and seamless line pipes as well as drill pipes. There are different types of grades that are available for OCTG casings. They are helpful in oil drilling, extraction as well as exploration. The OCTG pipes are cast and not welded.
