Man jailed four-and-half months for theft

ABEOKUTA— A 32‑year‑old man, Gbenga Oyebode, was Tuesday, sentenced to four-and-half months imprisonment over theft of N254,000 belonging to twin brothers.

The suspect was arranged before an Abeokuta magistrate’s court sitting at Isabo for stealing the money belonging to Taiwo and Kehinde Ojo.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of theft levelled against him.

He was initially granted bail in the sum of N200,000 by the presiding judge then, Anthony Araba.

The prosecutor, Sunday Eigbejiale, had said the offence is contrary to Secton 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1 Laws of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2006.

In his judgement, Magistrate Abiodun Akinyemi, who took up the case from Magistrate Araba, said the acussed had been found guilty and thereby sentenced him to imprisonment with an option of N300,000 fine.
