Lasanod — At least 50 people sustained burns during a massive blaze that broke out a gas station in Sool regional capital of Lasanod of northern Somalia on Monday according to witnesses, Garowe Online reports. Speaking with GO via telephone, local reporter said the explosion of gas can turned flames, triggering plumes of black smoke over the scene where the fire erupted.
Water trucks and residents immediately moved in to put out the blaze, he added. Three people are in critical condition at Lasanod General Hospital while more than 40 people have been hospitalized.
Photographic images from the scene of the fire show wreckages from gas cans in front of the damaged building in the down town.
Somaliland forces militarily seized Lasanod in October 2007, reigniting threats of instability in the stable states of Puntland and Somaliland. Both have scaped country’s bloodiest upheaval over the last two decades.
