Johannesburg — ESKOM said it had stopped load shedding despite the electricity supply system remaining vulnerable.
Load shedding stopped on Thursday evening but restoration of power took longer in some areas
“The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable for the rest of the week due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to maintenance. Maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term,” the company stated.
It apologised for the inconvenience to affected customers and thanked all electricity users for responding to our messages to save.
“Every little bit of saving counts in minimising the severity of load shedding.”
Eskom called on all customers to reduce the load on the electricity grid by switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand.
“Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.”
Eskom said it would continue to provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all media platforms.
